1 First of all, loosen the strings of the guitar to release the 150lbs of tension to the neck and the body
| |
2 Don't have to go all the way! Keep a little string tension to avoid any future adjustment or structural damage. Just a few turn until the strings is a little loose and when you can comfortably bend the strings by your fingers as shown above. |

3 Put papers under the peghead just enough to hold the peghead high in the case
| |
4 I usually put a flat sheet of paper on top to avoid sharp corners of the papers from damaging the finish of the guitar |
| |
5 Close the case firmly.. if you have to push just a little to close the case on the pedhead area, you have enough support under the peghead.. Remember to close all the latches and locks on the case as well!
| |
6 Just incase the locks and latches got unlocked or losen up, I like to put tapes to ensure the case won't fall apart |

8 Theres probably some clean up job after but it is still considerably a cheap insurance worth having

9 Now the box, make sure you got a decent guitar box from you local shop. They are usually used so.. please make sure you have enough protection and secured the bottom of the box with enough tapes especially the corners

11 Have yourself a lot of bubble papers
| |
12 Cut a thick pad at approx. the size of the bottom of the box
| |
13 It serves as a protection to the bottom part of the box
| |
14 Wrap your guitar case with a lot of bubble papers
| |
15 I usually wrap the handle as well to ensure it have extra protection since it is the only extension part of the case
| |
16 Put the guitar case in the box after you finish wrapping and have a lot of paper on the side of the case to ensure it is not moving at all when you shake the case sideway |
| |
17 Put another pad of bubble paper on the top
| |
18 Make sure you put enough there so you have to push hard to close the box
| |
19 Tape it up securely and ensure all corners receive extra protection. Remember to write the address clearly, use big arrows to indicate which side should face up, and get some fragile stickers from your post office. I shipped over dozen guitars all over the world and they all arrived safely. Hope you find it useful. |
